Opaque is an exciting young-adult urban fantasy. The main character, Adam, is a teenage loner who despises everyone. He is not a nice person, and at first, I didn’t like him at all. As the book progresses, he starts to mature and learn to care about others. This book reminds me of the “X-Men” with different characters having special abilities. I recommend this to readers of urban fantasy and science-fiction. People who like superheroes will discover something to like in this story.

I really enjoyed this book. The only reason i only gave it 4 stars is because there was a lot of punctuation and spelling mistakes, missing indentations, etc. however, the story line was different and weird and entertaining. Can’t wait to read book 2

The usual “superhuman” or mutant plot or story is a very common science fiction theme. These stories are sometimes so predictable as to their plots that they are very much a like. Here, however, that usual transparency in the plot is dotted with surprises and twists. This book shows that a mutant power story can be as opaque as it is exciting.

Opaque is a sci-fi/fantasy story set in the modern world. That’s important to understand because the story takes its time with an ordinary, troubled teen before introducing any fantasy elements. Adam does not start as a likable character, and honestly needs help to get out of his pit of darkness. Thankfully, he receives this help from another in the book and finds a way to fight the supernatural cause for his problems.

Filled with action, drama, and suspense Opaque has something to offer fans of most genres. The author shares her talent and imagination very skillfully. This is one of those books that the story starts strong, and keeps getting better as you read. It quickly becomes a gripping page turner.
One thing that I thought was not in sync with the rest of the books’ theme was the dropping of an early character in a rather harsh manner. This left me with a feeling of unfinished business.
Otherwise, Opaque was an enjoyable and entertaining read.

Overall i enjoy reading Opaque. The author, Calix Leigh-Reign, manages to create a world, a human species and a romantic story in less than 300 pages. On the other hand, sometimes the novel feels a little bit rushed, leading to situations that may not feel deserved. Putting that a side, this book has a very fresh approach to the fantasy, supernatural genre.
If you are into fantasy / sci-fi, you are probably going to enjoy this book.

Glad I’m strong enough to form my own opinion instead of following what others say. This book was very entertaining and professionally edited. So many complain that Adam isn’t likable right away but that’s real life lol. Like seriously. Fake people will sing & dance to get fake love but real people are usually misunderstood right off. I love how really flawed he is and applause to the author for creating so many strong female characters. Bravo! On to book 2.
